Got Wii?

I got a Wii tonight, and after playing with Geoff for a little bit, I'm sad to say that I'm not too impressed :( . The 'wiimotes' are difficult to aim precisely, and 'Wii Sports' feels like a really dumbed-down tech demo, not a real game. Hopefully these problems will go away once I can calibrate the remote sensor bar and get a real launch title (the store was out of Zelda, grr).

I haven't tried the Virtual Console yet (not looking forward to typing in a 128-bit WPA key using the wiimote), but I'm expecting it to be good once there are a few more titles available. My worst fear is that it will end up that the best Wii game I can get is Sonic the Hedgehog (yes, the Genesis version) :P

  1. I was skeptical at first, but the Wii-motes I have both seem to work really well. Scarily well, in fact. They are very precise and easy to aim whether shooting baddies or hovering over buttons. Let me know how the calibration goes.

I couldn’t find component cables either, but my TV has a 480i to 480p converter, and it looks pretty good.

  2. My main problem is that I have a projector, and the sensor bar’s cord doesn’t reach to the front of the room without getting in the way. The screen is also 80″, which is a lot bigger than the Wii software seems to be expecting, so it’s all off and there doesn’t seem to be a way to calibrate your screen size.
Mine also de-interlaces and it doesn’t look too bad, but at 480i you’re only getting half the frame rate :(

  3. Blah blah blah the point is we have a wii. And Zelda. And I rule at it because I am so cool. Are you jealous Eric? You can come over and play it if you want!

  4. I eventually got Zelda at another store

  5. Argh, where are all the component cables?! I want EDTV goodness!

  6. Well, I rocked the Wii at siber’s house last weekend, and I can honestly say I was not too impressed either. The sports games were alright, but in the boxing game, the gloves seemed to have motions of their own instead of duplicating the movements of the controllers, but maybe its just me

  7. I like the wii when i played at sambers house. I still have been unable to get one however :( . Seems like everyone who didnt want one now has one, but I still dont have one even tho i wanted it badly. O well.

anyway hope this helps with your sensor bar problem
