Dead Bulb #2
Fortunately this one is in my car instead of in my projector.
I like how the car knows exactly which bulb is dead and can even tell me about it. On my old car I had no way to tell that something was dead other than manually checking out all the lights.
Of course, on the old Buick, I could go out there with a normal screwdriver and replace the stupid $1 bulb myself. On the new car the lights are all hermetically sealed into the back of the car and I'll probably have to pay Volkswagen $75 to fix it.. grr.
I wonder if this is related to this story from February which I seemed to have missed: VW recalls 790,000 vehicles because of brake lights

My car just shows a picture of a light bulb with an X through it. I’m going to say yours is more fancy.

My car has LEDs! OK, it doesn’t, but I wish it did.

are you sure that the sealed light casings aren’t accessible from inside the car, perhaps under some of the interior bodywork in the trunk area? i highly doubt they’d make brake lights unchangeable by your average driver…

They might open up from the back on the inside of the car. I’m planning to check it out sometime this weekend maybe. Hopefully I’ll be able to get them out

Eric, you can replace it yourself. Here’s a guide about replacing the tail light which should be similar for a lot of the past few years worth of VW models.

I saw that page when I was searching around, but for the late 2006/7 models VW re-arranged the back of the cars so it’s not the same on the inside any more. But today I will check it out and see what I can do.

Man, their examples of green eyes are horrible! That one on the top left is just brown, basically. Maybe I’m just an extremist. I have high standards. If your eye doesn’t look like grass, it’s not really green.
