My computer used to fail to come out of sleep with Tiger, and Apple replaced the motherboard to fix that! I still have trouble with the computer recognising my wireless network, but I had just as much trouble with Tiger. Here's just one of my Vista stories: I have a scanner that worked great on vista and one day it just stopped working. after upgrading drivers and many restarts I concluded the scanner had died. On a whim I plugged it in to my mac and pressed the "scan" button on the scanner and it just worked. try the sp3 beta and let us know how it goes.
