See, this is why I never ask "when will my car be ready?" Instead, I say "please call me when the car is ready." Then again I don't really need my car for getting to work and around town, which helps a bit too I guess.

That's sort of the point - I don't care since I'm not going back to that dealership.

I think you just blew your chance of being private about the bad review you gave the dealership, considering you just posted all the details about it on the internet...

My recommendation is to ask around and find a mechanic/car dealership that is excellent and then give that place your business!

Then you can keep your expectations up and get the results you deserve...

OK so about expecting bad service - in this case I'm specifically talking about mechanics and card dealerships, not everything.
If I have low expectations, then in the event that I do get good service I can be pleasantly surprised, but if I get bad service then I won't be too disappointed. I think it works out.

One more reason to do the service yourself...

Last time I took my car in for a suspected turbo leak, they drove the car in the morning, and said there was definitely a problem. They had the car all day, and then when I picked it up in the evening they assured me there was no problem. They even said they'd be happy not to charge me for the warranty "work".

I am glad to hear that you spoke up and told Volkswagon corporate your thoughts when they called.

But "I honestly expect to get bad service pretty much wherever I go, so I’m honestly not too displeased about that..." I'm sorry to hear you say! Why don't you have higher expectations?
